Rehabilitation centers are places or institutes where an individual goes to recover from a disorder or injury and learns to live with maximum functionality. At times services of rehab center are also sought to improve on the existing performance levels. 
All rehab centers have the ideal goal to help individuals recover and regain their original functionality to improve existing performance levels. These centers use various medical, technological and therapeutic modalities to achieve its goal. The rehab centers can be broadly classified as per their primary health care goal. These centers are advanced and improved form of traditional nursing centers. These nursing centers used to provide nurse care facilities to individuals with disordered functionality. However, with the change in time and rapid developments in the field of science (medical) and technology (biotechnology), the role of nursing centers has been taken over by rehab centers.

Based on specialization 
They can be classified based on the rehabilitation service they offer such as:
• Drug and alcohol rehab (to recover from drug and alcohol addiction)
• Substance abuse rehabilitation (similar to drug or alcohol rehabilitation but in all-embracing sense)
• Cardiac rehab (heart related disorders)

• Vocational / occupational rehabilitation (rehabilitation with focus on specific vocational skills)
• Sports rehabilitation(for sports related injuries and to improve performance levels)

Other than these, now the term rehabilitation is also used with other restoring works such as:
• Land rehabilitation
• Political rehabilitation
• Criminal rehabilitation etc
Based on individuals
Rehabilitation centers provide their services to individuals either through in-house treatment or through outpatient centers. Based on how the services are administered, rehab centers are classified as:
• Inpatient rehabilitation center
• Outpatient rehabilitation center 
Based in funding
Rehabilitation centers can also be classified on the basis of their mode of operations (financially). They can be either:
• For-profit rehabilitation center or
• Non-for-profit rehabilitation center

The team of employees working at a Rehab center comprises specialists and experienced staff. Though the exact team combination would depend upon the patient, diagnosis and type of rehab center; generally all centers have the following staff positions:

• Rehabilitation medicine expert

• Rehabilitation psychologist

Deciding a rehabilitation center
There are innumerable numbers of rehabilitation centers spread all over. All rehabilitation centers with the demand of time and competition, now offer diverse services across a wide spectrum. This makes it difficult for an individual to select ideal center suited to its requirements. These tips would be beneficial in sorting down the alternatives to optimal:
• Team of expert / doctors (all staff)
• Programs available (inpatient / outpatient / daycare)
• Cost of programs
• After services (post program follow-ups)
• Duration of program
• Distance from home (transportation)
• Opinion of family doctor
• Insurances accepted
• License
• On premise facilities
With these decisive criteria, one can certainly filter the complex alternatives and decide on ideal rehabilitation center befitting personal requirements. A review of earlier successful patient treatment records is even more helpful in concluding the list. However, it's always recommended that one should always seek services of these centers to regain optimum performance levels.
